Absolute fucking heat. I think the second act is a bit fatty making the runtime feel a little bloated, but this is easily my favorite Saulnier. Plays a lot like a non-lethal First Blood, one of my favorite films. I think it’s a big step up for Saulnier not only in filmmaking craft and sustained tension, but also in that he’s dealing with his themes in more visceral and meaningful ways. But the big takeaway everyone will have is Aaron Pierre. Dude is HIM and gives one of my favorite performances of the year. He’s going to have 1000 scripts on his desk Monday morning and I cannot wait to see more of him.
