Grand Theft Hamlet 2024

Unserious: wow I’ve never sat down in the cinema to lock into a YouTube video before
Serious: this was very human, it did a really good job at capturing what the pandemic felt like for some of us. It was also really well shot, especially for something entirely done in a video game. I laughed a lot, but I also felt for the people involved. Realistically I’d rate this closer to a 4/5 for sheer uniqueness but Letterboxd doesn’t have much room for minutiae in their rating system.

I knew before even watching this film that I was going to love it. It has one of my favourite casts of all time, music by Hans Zimmer, and it’s written by Quentin Tarantino (and his highly unfortunate affinity for white people saying the N word). The costumes were iconic, every scene looked amazing, and I am a sucker for a crazy love story. It was also a bit reminiscent of David Lynch’s film Wild at Heart, which I also like, so added bonus.

Great performances from the entire cast, slow paced but worth it, the ending leaves you with bated breath !
