a huge swing and a miss for David Gordon-Green & Co.
Having loved Blumhouse’s iterations of the Halloween franchise since it’s release in 2018, even Halloween Kills is a great film imo, being one of my favourite experiences in a cinema. So as someone desperately looking forward to this, it’s sad to say it’s a complete shitshow and let down. bad script, editing, camerawork - the whole lot.
it does semi-satisfy as a conclusion to this new trilogy, in the last 15 minutes (even if it’s really fucking ridiculous), but overall it’s just too slow (the pacing lags a tonne), and really doesn’t actually amount to much in the final act.
it does continue to add to Michael’s mythology, introduced in these new films, of a man stronger than most beings and somewhat of a higher power or possession, but doesn’t function to a degree in the final act.
overall i’m upset about how the final product turned out, i can only imagine how decent the proposed finale of this would’ve been, having been filmed back to back with Kills, and taken place also on the same night in 2018. Thanks to COVID, we’ll never know. maybe it would’ve involved Michael and Laurie having sexy bum time.
