• Nosferatu

    Nosferatu

    ★★★★★

Nosferatu is really undoubtedly worth all the time needed to check the film out with still amazing iconic and masterful uses of practical effects and film-making techniques from way back in the day to create a visually engaging and haunting experience.

Do not expect any subtlety. With only title cards to read in this film, symbolism, and a broader style of acting than we are accustomed to, Director F.W. Murnau really makes use of them all to propel his story forward, this was way ahead of it's time obviously!

IMO, this is one of the best and most beautiful horror classics of all time!

  • Superman Returns

    Superman Returns

    ★★★

Underneath most of this movies big and heavy mechanical safety and mild-manners, this type of Superman does have some heart and some muscle, clearly. You'll come to like having it around, IMO even if you thought you'd already moved on from a franchise.

Ultimately for me Superman Returns really feels really over the top eager to please, and it frequently succeeds mostly, but despite its best and most valiant intentions, it seldom really soars to the height of 1978's Superman: The Movie, for me?

  • The Damned

    The Damned

    ★★★½

    1st horror movie of 2025!

Just beware while the repetitive moments can have a sort of dulling effect and some may be frustrated by the super conclusive ending, the ride to get there is extremely wild and frigid, suspenseful, and extremely ominous.

You will feel the psychological horror of The Damned to be really pitched perfect for the vast majority of the runtime. Even really before the terror kicks in full bore, there is a dread to the story being told that just washes over you while you watch.

This is a tale with the power to disturb you big time.

  • Dune: Prophecy - Lincoln Centre Premiere

Dune: Prophecy - Lincoln Centre Premiere

    ★★★★

Dune Prophecy is an incredible watch, and a very promising first season. To those who call it slow paced and hard to watch, I don't get it. The pacing is super duper delicate, appropriate and entirely satisfying IMO. Every character is complex and compelling, and each of them has amazing and appropriate dialogue, I thought as I watched through this.

The visual effects also I have to point out are top notch, and the cinematography is endlessly eye popping, this…

  • The Italian Job

    The Italian Job

    ★★★

    4K Re-Watch!
Heist movies seem pretty quaint and analog, IMO in our era where high stakes crime is primarily electronic in nature, maybe we are all spoiled in that respect? But until someone out there can make embezzlement cinematically interesting, we're left with theft and this movie just gets away with it, mostly?

What really bugs me about this movie and I am probably being to critical is the support cast isn't much better. Jason Statham just repeats his Transporter…

  • A Complete Unknown

    A Complete Unknown

    ★★½

By no means am I no expert on Bob Dylan, and I honestly do not care if the movie is not historically accurate with every little single detail. I am, however, a giant fan of the music played in this film in a big way. The music, the acting and the musical performances all are great.

But sometimes James Mangold's singular vision of deifying one musician at the cost of all others makes for a flat, kind of soulless film…

  • Better Man

    Better Man

    ★★

So, here is what I can say about this film and I can really give the film credit for doing something a little different with the music biopic formula, that has been done to death, although I’m not quite sure this weird swing connects, with me personally?

Maybe I was in a weird state of mind here in the New Years but, like The Greatest Showman, Better Man is an huge glaring example of all style and minimum substance, with even the style often coming off as obnoxious rather than immersive to me?

  • Mufasa: The Lion King

    Mufasa: The Lion King

    ★★

    Disney, go home you're drunk!

I don't know what you saw but the rubbery expressiveness of traditional animation is replaced by the feeling of a nature documentary where the narrator’s attempt to really understand and graft human emotions onto wild animals never quite feels like it takes at all for me?

I will say though, Blue Ivy, daughter of Jay-Z and Beyoncé, also made her mark in the role of Kiara though. Despite the pressure of being the child of…

  • Or Utopia

    Or Utopia

    ★★★

So for me the story line is amazingly wild and unique, also the amazing actors and director really compliment this project!
If you're super duper horribly tired of the really lame and tragic, violent tales or unfunny comedies, this is the perfect pick.
I had fun with this one!

    Holiday RE-WATCH!

Paul Giamatti and Alexander Payne are very simply a movie match made in heaven, IMO!!

    Simply an enduring classic... timeless!

  • Wicked

    Wicked

    ★★★

IMO, what viewers like myself want from Wicked is not to "defy gravity," but to placate fans and entertain most newcomers with a by-the-book silver screen adaptation. Because that’s exactly what “Wicked” does so impeccably well from my vantage point, with style, grace and a gracious sweeping vision.

The politics of the story are very simple not heavy-handed but that doesn't make them less relevant. A fun simple message I think anyone can relate to as they watch things unfold.
