Bio-Dome 1996
Before Dude, Where’s My Car?, there was Bio-Dome. Obnoxiously brainless comedy that goes on longer than it should—the hilarity doesn’t start until the fifty minute mark when it genuinely got a few chuckles out of me but falls beneath itself once again when it tries to have environmental awareness that surprise-surprise doesn’t go anywhere by the end. Shore and Baldwin’s gags upon gags don’t work and their personalities are horridly vile (most of the time) when it comes to heartfelt-scenes-that-improves-upon-the-characters, but what do you expect from a pre-Freddy Got Fingered offensive comedy? Cool opening credits, at least.

Freddy Got Fingered 2001
Anti-Hollywood absurdist humor to the maximum, constantly blurting out “huh?” in complete disbelief—Tom Green’s joke about wasting eighty-seven minutes of your life to consume yourself into a weird abundance of jokes that consists of blood and bottom-of-the-barrel humor that, shockingly, works? Sort of? Bizarre that this truly exists that was distributed by Twentieth Century Fox and made back the exact number of its budget at the box office—now that’s something to laugh about.

The Blair Witch Project 1999
Without a doubt the best depiction of being lost and afraid in horror—those final minutes shivers me to the bone at how impactful Heather’s screams echo throughout the dilapidated house and the sudden conclusion of the fate of these characters. The lo-fi grains varied with the VCR+VHS tape is the best combo for a genuine “forbidden-tape-found-in-the-woods” experience.

Black Christmas 1974
Familiar environment; the cozy furniture to the crackling of the wood from the fireplace and the Christmas decorations all accumulate into the cold dreary unfamiliar presence that reinforces silent dread instead of the silent peacefulness. The silhouetted figure with no real motive or backstory takes a stab as the phone keeps ringing and ringing into the silent but holy night as the credits roll over its eerie cold breeze into the late night hours of the day.
