I mean if you've seen the first one you've seen this one. Just more watered down. It's a serviceable fair of action and entertainment, but there was potential to make the story stand out and there in the performances too.
I believe the moment where Maximus describes his simple farm life with his family to Caeser, the acting from Russell Crowe in that moment the way his eyes light up and illicit passion, that's the key moment that sells this otherwise very familiar revenge story into something worthwhile that imbues surprising spurts of humanity. Beautiful performance by Crowe.
