Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger
Getting to see this on the big screen was an amazing treat that I never really expected to happen. I also thought this was relatively unknown but my showing was sold out and my theater extended this from one night to an entire week so I was clearly wrong about that.
I've always loved Daft Punk, and Discovery in particular, and I remember seeing bits of this as music videos when the album originally came out…
Sometimes you have to pretend to be strong, even when you’re breaking inside
An absolute whirlwind of a movie in the best way possible. It grabbed me immediately and pulled me along for the ride, I loved everything about it. It's such a great blend of comedy and sadness and so many characters felt like very real people. Mikey Madison is phenomenal as Ani, she definitely deserves all the accolades she is getting for this. This was my first Sean Baker movie and I can't wait to watch more from him.
A beautiful and stressful survival movie that may have slightly traumatized my daughter. The animation style was very unique, I know they rendered this entire movie using Blender and having used that program before I'm amazed at what they were able to accomplish with it. As good as it looks, the animals are what really make this movie shine, I liked how they couldn't talk and mostly acted like real animals. Without any dialogue it made for some wonderful visual storytelling and I was able to really connect emotionally with it.
The Juice is loose...
This was such a refreshing and fun movie, I enjoyed it so much more than I thought I would. It was hilarious and gave off that fantastically weird vibe you get when Tim Burton is at his best. I thought the whole cast was great but especially Catherine O'Hara, she had me laughing at every scene she was in. Monica Bellucci was also great but criminally underused, her ending was probably my only complaint about the movie. This was a really fun one to see with a crowd, I definitely recommend it!
