I hadn't watched anything else by Osgood Perkins before Longlegs, but now I'm thinking that I should.

I was so determined to watch this in a theatre that I skipped a family outing during our holiday abroad to go see it alone.
In my defence, I didn't exactly fancy going to a park with 3 kids in tow, two of which were not my own.

So I booked an Uber 15 minutes before the film was scheduled to start (risky, I know), which got me there in 10 minutes (great!), only to be met with just one open ticket booth which was [busy] serving two elderly women that seemed to have ALL the time in the world buying a ticket and choosing seats.
And my presence behind them did nothing to rush the process. None of my visible fidgeting, audible sighs and exasperating eyes darting in all directions, as if to say 'is there seriously only ONE ticket booth open??' had any effect whatsoever. And the ticket staff wasn't helping, as she indulged the ladies in leisurely conversation.
I wanted to scream "Please, my movie is about to start, and I can't miss the beginning!" Because although I was going in blind, I'd heard that the opening scene was rather important.

When I finally did get my ticket, being in a foreign language, I mixed the Screen number with some other number and ended up entering a screen where something was already playing.
Unbeknownst to me, I sat down at the far end, thinking it was a commercial before the movie. But the more I watched, the less it seemed like a commercial. Then I started thinking it WAS my movie and it had already started, but why was it showing two African kids in what looked like an African village and speaking in a presumably African language? Was this a prologue that had something to do with the killer known as Longlegs from years past?
I was almost compelled to ask the audience member nearest to me if this was the Nic Cage movie because I was starting to have serious doubts.
In the end, I rushed out of there, and down four flights of steps to the ticket master to confirm the screen number. Then it was four flights of steps up again to the correct screen, sweaty and out of breath by then, but just in time to catch Longlegs's opening credits.
I made it!

I loved the mood, vibe and tone of Longlegs. It's reminiscent of films like Silence of the Lambs and Se7en, and although there were many dark serial-killer thrillers over the years following those films, very few managed to instil that sense of brooding dread and wickedness in such a craftful manner.

Nic Cage has put in a solid performance once again, but it's also a role he stated he will not repeat, as he's not into playing bad people who hurt others, a comment that makes me like Nic even more.
