This is what I needed it to be! I went in scared of it being super cringe, and with pretty low expectations... But there was no way not to watch...Beetlejuice is one of my favourite movies of all time.
Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O'Hara were all great. Jenna Ortega integrated very well! Willem Dafoe was HILARIOUS. This delivered a pretty fresh story, with good new underworld gags. Loved the Soul Train. Even the choral Day-O was used was sooo much better than what I expected from the trailer.
I think it was a good call to make it a full on Halloween movie. Definitely some story and plot contrivances and some weird pacing/editing at times. Beetlejuice's ex hardly mattered, for example. The sets were nowhere near as tight as the OG. The Charles Deetz stuff was somewhat awkward at first too but it worked by the end.
BUT overall, happy with it and glad I got to see this!
