long run time = masterpiece, ask oppie. wow. i didn’t expect this to be so stimulating. so intriguing. humorous and heartbreaking. i genuinely had 0 expectations. i went in blind minus the length of the film and MAN, when i say it blew me away. It really did.
what an absolute talking piece. this film took a journey i was not expecting and loved every second of the way. journalists are the backbone of democracy. my love for this runs deep. this film is truly incredible. i’m gonna be thinking about this one for a while.
We, as humans, remember the shots taken by journalists more than those taken by soldiers. I’m in disbelief that I saw this in IMAX & got to hear the thoughts from the main cast and director immediately after. Civil War is still my favorite film of the year, visually and audibly; the soundtrack choices, the writing, the acting, the cinematography, and THE PURPOSE! The last act is so anxiety-inducing. You couldn't find a more ideal usage of sound in any other…
wow! extremely intense and sexy. i vibed with the score. very trance-like feel to it thats enjoyable to bump your head to. the performances were incredible. the story itself constantly felt like one big tennis match. i’m not into sports movies all that much, but, i feel like as if the throuple angle gave it the elements it needed to make it enjoyable. i also really liked the ending??? thinking back on it, the decision of the ending is supported…
SO well done!!!! i cannot wait for this to hit theaters so i can see it again. i greatly appreciate the metal representation 🤘🏽 as well as how the crew portrayed the themes throughout the film. being able to attend the q&a after the screening with the director Tyler Chipman & getting to hear how this all came about made me that more infatuated with how this film came out. thank you guys. it was seriously stellar
(fucking AMAZING ending btw, funny yet somehow sums things up perfectly)
the sheer amount of sacrifice on display is incredibly heartbreaking and strengthening. Thomas Kretschmann & Song Kang-ho are a fantastic duo that brought me to tears with the forming of their intense companionship in such rigid and damgerous conditions. The real-life tale of the Gwangju Uprising was something I wasn't familiar with. My heart goes out to the souls lost in the war for democracy in this time of political instability. It hurts my heart even more knowing Peter and Kim…
goddamnit, here i am, crying. i am too emotional for this. this film is 100% perfect. every visual moment. ever actor's expression. every use of sound. tomorrow's vote on the podcast will not be an easy one. but, after this watch, two things are certain. Nolan is, beyond a shadow of a doubt, my favorite director and this is his masterpiece.
