This movie is all about overcoming letting the pressures of society gentrify you individuality, which allows it to be one of the best coming of age stories to ever come out. Honestly, my new favorite coming of age story. Not only my favorite superhero movie now, but one of my new favorite movies.
I’ve watched it so many times and I see something new on each viewing. I still stand by how this is a great story about biracial identity. What is so smart is that it doesn’t use his black and Puerto Rican identity as the focus, they convey the struggles of being accept by two different words through his civilian identity and the creation of his superhero identity. Trying to figure out how to be accepted into both worlds speaks so much about Miles in this story, but the struggle of someone to find or feel acceptance when they are biracial. The whole thing about being who you are and that your individuality of having a personality that doesn’t fit into the majority does not mean you are not capable of greatness. It’s a lesson I think a lot of people in the world can learn from when it comes to accepting people who do not conform to the majority.
Miles’s story is greatly executed to the point that I can cry cause this a movie that makes me feel empowered as someone who sometimes is insecure about their identity. If Miles can accept himself for being different than so can I. That leap of faith scene with what’s up danger is still...dope.
