Finally checked this out and I had a great time! A great story with beautiful animation, a fun cast and most importantly an important message. I gotta be honest that even though I really liked it, I feel slightly disappointed. I’ll go deeper into it, but first I want to highlight the big positives.
This movie genuinely looks incredible, the animation is so beautiful and unique, absolutely love it. This also made for many amazing shots of which some were a true piece of art. I just really love the fact that we’re in this new era of animation where animators try so many cool new things and don’t just play it safe! It truly makes these films much better!
Lupita Nyong’o really shines in this movie as the robot Roz, her line delivery is great and she’s super funny too. Talking about comedy, possibly my favorite part about this movie, Pedro Pascal! He was so good and SO funny! Really loved him, like always actually. There also just were a few nice supporting cast members too like Catherine O’Hara and Bill Nighy who were all great!
So like I mentioned, despite my big positives, I still wasn’t fully blown away by this film. I think the biggest problem was that people just made this out to be one of the best animated movies ever and one of the best movies of the year, it just didn’t hit with me like that. Like I said, I had a great time and I really think this movie is amazing, the 4.3 average on Letterboxd is just a tad too high imo, and all the incredibly positive opinions of everyone just set my expectations a bit too high.
Overal I loved my time with The wild robot, the cast is really great, it’s beautifully animated and has good comedic side too. Together with all of this, it also manages to deliver a good message, so that surely makes it a win. I might not have loved it as much like everyone else did (or as much as I expected to) but it’s all good, would still definitely recommend you to check this movie out!
