One of the best movies to start a week with. Not only is it an inspiring story of finding one’s self purpose, but it also exemplifies that life isn’t all sunshine and roses, that we will encounter bad and sometimes terrible things in our lifetime but we must accept them and keep pushing forward as brighter days are always ahead.
Man the score is the best Disney has to offer, Hans Zimmer is unbelievably gifted, a perfect mix of African beats and pure Hollywood. Pairing Hans Zimmer with Elton John feels illegal, Elton definitely did some of his best work here, Can you feel the Love Tonight? and Circle of Life are so spirit rousing and makes me feel happy every time.
Scar has to one of the goats in the Disney wheel of villains, played by Jeremy Irons who does not miss. His work on "Be Prepared" is one of the best moments that showcases his commitment to the cause and adds depth to his character, definitely frightening me as a child.
His counter partner in Jeremy Earl Jones who voices Mufasa is equally as impressive, I’ve gone into what I think of his work in a previous review, be sure to check that out if your interested.
So many great little side plots that help us fall in love with these existing characters. The side plot I enjoyed the most was the humorous Timon and Pumba, seeing my kid laugh at almost everything they did will never not be precious and I remember those days fondly laughing at the pair of funny guys. Mix that with the mischief of the hyenas and you’ve got endless laughs, brilliant characters that definitely have their fair share of fans.
The Lion King is one of those top 100 movies, an unforgettable cinematic experience that has stood and will stand the test of time. It makes you FEEL; you’ll laugh, cry, and leave with a sense of pride long after the credits roll. It’s a must-watch for all ages, I just watched this with my 4 year old boy and we both love it like it’s the first time watching. The Lion King will always hold a special place in hearts for being one of Disney's greatest animated films.
