As the great Roger Ebert put it, this movie is a little too on the nose to reach its full emotional potential, “the dialogue keeps the emotion on the screen, instead of allowing it to unfold in the viewer's imagination”, as he wrote. The same can be said about the score (Sarah Mac Lachlan was one step too far). But then again, it’s got peak Meg Ryan in one of her most heartbreaking roles, accompanied by an incredibly muted Nic Cage (considering we’re talking about 1990s Cage here).

Seeing this in a packed theatre was magical, good vibes only. Just the movie we need right now.

Showgirls 1995
Gloriously over-the-top, peak 90s, hilariously campy Paul Verhoeven satire. No one is ever going to convince me that there was anything unintentional about this film, about the acting, the dialogue.
Loved every minute, being able to see this in a cinema was such a treat as well – everyone clapping at that scene in the pool was so fun!
