I have my last exam tomorrow, and it's an astroscience elective. So what better way to prepare than watching Interstellar! Seriously though, the special features were genuinely helpful and made a regular movie night feel all the more productive. It's one thing studying these concepts and cosmological ideas, but actually seeing them visualized is breathtaking. It's cliché to say, but it really does put everything into perspective.
Not to get so existential, but I have a morbid longing for life after death to feel like this movie. I don't mean that in a film bro "Christopher Nolan is the saviour of modern cinema" kind of way, but as a result of Interstellar's combined atmosphere of emptiness, floating through the deepest darkness of a black hole where your thoughts can't even escape, and simultaneous lonely silence and rising energy of Zimmer's organ as you drift for eternity, no future and no past, forever. And all the while life as you knew it continues back home none the wiser.
I find that terrifying, and arresting, but also slightly comforting, because if I'm destined to spend the rest of eternity coddled in a dark womb of Hans Zimmer music, then it ain't that bad.
