Love Me Tonight 1932
This film outdated badly. The crumbling of elites by a rich dame-poor chap romance is a very generic pattern, Lubitsch would've reach different heights. The only saving grace, I guess, was the ever-charming Maurice Chevalier.

Dui Shaw 2024
'Waqt' was the best one, undoubtedly. This is special. Nuhas entering the gory alley, I hope he will dig deeper into the dungeon next time. The 2nd one fell flat totally. But the final one ('Beshura') is an unique tale only married at the end.
Sometimes his social Statements felt heavier than his material, he really need to adjust his priorities first. But his craft is evolving. The soundscape & BGM were top-notch. I want something more sinister from his next venture.

What stands out is its conscious departure from thriller mode, a very very cliche apparatus in Indian crime film nowadays. Not only that, the lead is almost passive with a very few dialogues, not one punchline throughout. Shahana Goswami gleamed as a restrained & nuanced observer. At the end, she broke down. Was her final call declares the loss of individuality within a spiderweb of corruped machinary or is it a resistance itself , a battle against her ownself, I can't say.

Now I can easily say Jacques Rivette is the best director for me this year. His films blends filmic reality with theatre with a spirit of mischief & adventure. His entire filmography is crowned with several brilliant female leads, but what Bulle Ogier did & did so playfully in this film is simply out of the world.
