I just couldn’t with these two main characters. They’re remarkably dumb from the word go as they veer off Wrong Turn-style to a clearly creepy and decrepit town, and it only gets worse as they shack up in a local Murder-Air-B-n-B, hear mysterious noises and encounter creepy occurrences, before one decides to jet off on a motorbike that isn’t his own while the other smokes a bunch of pot (that’ll help her senses in this unsettling situation). I’d be here all day if I had to cover all the dumb things they did (don’t get me started on them continually hiding around the house and shed instead of just making a run for it). And the main guy, pretty though he is, couldn’t act his way out of a paper bag. The film overall isn’t exactly terrible (a couple of jump scares got me) but it offers precisely zero that is new in this franchise. It’s basically an unnecessary and less effective remake of the first. Surprised Renny Harlin directed this, I would’ve expected something more unique from him. Throw that ending in the trash too. We don’t need a Chapter 2.
