    Jurassic Park

    ★★★★½

June 11th..... It has now been exactly 30 years since this beast of a movie graced movie theaters.

Jurassic Park is one of those movies that has joined the ranks of my all-time favorites. Granted my first time watching it in full was back in 2018. I was 14 and finally legally able to see it (blame my parents). But even before, as someone who grew up on youtube, I would be amazed at all the clips people uploaded online.…

Dante and Randal are basically redditors.

My first Tarantino film, and holy shit, people aren't kidding when they say the guy is a movie nut (and a fan of women's feet, which, I...uhhhhh, weirdly maybe sort-of, kind-of, kinda..............also share (braces for impact)).

While it is first and foremost an action film, I found it also revels in some cheesiness. But y'know, really GOOD cheese.

It's jaw-dropping beatdown after jaw-dropping beatdown, laced with downright SLICK editing and composition (plus I'm a sucker for credits scenes that get…

Today's mother's day, so I decided to watch something that would be right up her alley.

While I only got into anime last year, I do have nice memories of my mom sitting me down in front of the computer to watch spanish dubs of Candy Candy and Heidi she grew up watching. The latter being an adaptation Miyazaki & Takahata actually worked on. And you can really feel that wholesome, childlike vibe throughout so many of their works.

    There's always…

  • Ghost in the Shell

    Ghost in the Shell

    ★★★½

Tonight, I watched this with Adam (YourMovieSucks)'s commentary track. Not as super engaging as I hoped, but it's still my first time watching a movie with a full commentary track from a Youtuber I respect.

As I mentioned in the past, Ghost in the Shell is another film that I found overhyped. Beautifully atmospheric in tone, hypnotic music, and expertly animated sure (that shot of the helicopter flying through the blue-lit city is my favorite)...but that short runtime always gets…

    ★★★½

Sure, there's plenty of "high-five your homies" moments and sharp humorous setups and dialogue, but those emotional beats in the 3rd Act had no right to hit that hard. Sisses for life.

Plus those underwater shots were PERFECT.

  • Jaws

    Jaws

    ★★★★

I'm not a horror aficionado or anything but that underwater jumpscare was PERFECT.

A great slow-burn. Slowly but surely as you reach the 2nd half which takes place entirely on the ocean, you get more of Brucey. Not to mention every actor in this is stellar.

And considering how this film was apparently a nightmare to shoot at times, it makes it all the more satisfying to see it rewarded (namely, for being considered one of the first ever "blockbusters").

I want to flick that shiteating mayor in the eye.

  • Promare

    Promare

    ★★★★½

Almost two hours of "fuck yeah."

Its one big drawback however, is that it's very blatantly derivative. It's Gurren Lagann and Kill la Kill smushed together, complete with Imaishi and Trigger's signature high-octane, bright, colorful sakuga, and a pretty obvious yet absurd as hell plot. It can feel like a blatant retread if you're familiar with their work.

But looking completely past that, if you're willing to embrace how shameless it is, Promare still leaves you pumped up and satisfied…

    Cosmo was my favorite.

Just a straightforward, charming, colorful Hollywood musical. Also: respect the power of good dubbing.

    I'm back!

Anyway, since this year was the 30th anniversary, I had to rewatch Shawshank at least once.

As with a lot of rewatches, it's always impressive how quickly time flies. This is 2 hour & 20 minutes, yet feels like only an hour and a half. Again, it's downright freaky how things whiz by when you're rewatching something you like. I mean, it helped that now I knew some of the twists revealed, and got some needed refreshers (I forgot…

    Looney Tunes: Back in Action

    ★★★★

I've been gone for a week on here because I've been watching Attack on Titan lately (finished season 1 and it was great!).

Anyway, I remember watching this years ago when it was on Netflix and LOVING it. And to my pleasure, I think I like it even more on this rewatch!

The film just whizzes by, feeling way shorter than 90 minutes (even with credits), and it's so endlessly fun in every sense of the word. It makes for…
