Nolan’s done it again folks. What a fantastic film. Pure brilliance. There’s 3 shots I would consider shot of the year worthy, and you’ll definitely know which they are when you watch. On a technical note the film is near flawless. The editing is crisp, sound is soooo much better than Tenet, and the back and forth from B&W to color is seamless. Nolan’s everlasting love of time is shown even here with his non-linear storytelling. His best film since Interstellar.
I’m truly putting the last hour/final act of Oppenheimer up with the best work he’s ever done. It goes in the direction you’d think but in a gut-wrenching, thought-provoking and an absolutely horrifying manner. The final scene, line, and shot are all terrifying in the best way possible. It’s the perfect way to end the film. Beautiful scene and will haunt me every time I see it.
I wouldn’t be surprised, and I really hope it happens, that the film has 3 acting Oscar winners. Murphy shines and it doesn’t need any further explanation, Emily Blunt… I’d give it to her for the interrogation scene alone but she’s great overall, and RDJ is spectacular. All three could be locks but obviously we have many more films to be released..
I take Oppenheimer at his word. I believe what he said is what he truly felt. Yes the guy may have wanted to be the most famous scientist of his time and win a prize, but the switch flipped for him.
I will definitely be seeing this again, but in 70mm next time. It has huge rewatch value. Such an important story.
