Weird one. An admirably bumbling, ambitious trilogy closer that draws its influences from the likes of Christine, It and even Halloween 07. Predicated on the idea that Haddenfield coming face to face with the eldritch-like evil of Michael Myers has infected everyone in the town isn’t a bad idea in of itself tbh, just think Haddenfield is depicted far too cartoonishly to ever to really mean anything. Which I think can be contributed to how its predecessor set the framework for its depiction, which is also indicative of its larger problem; all the movies in this trilogy are vastly different to each other in tone and in terms of interpreting Michael Myers as a movie monster and Ends is bumping up against all those film’s genre and thematic ideas trying to reconcile all of them into this coming of age murder cocktail. To say you get a whiplash watching it all unfold is an understatement, yet the result is more interesting than i would have thought especially coming off of the horrendous last entry but i don’t think it really works. Maybe if the melodrama wasn't so clunky and resonated with me this could have been something. As it is though, it’s an audacious “good try” as a franchise approaching the tried-and-true, simple slasher formula from a different perspective.
