It's so weird to have finally seen this, almost half a year after its release, after hearing so many great and positive things about it. And it didn't disappoint - well, come on, what did I expect, it's Christopher Nolan again.
The trinity test alone is an example of complete mastery, both in the visual and auditory department. The editing, the score, the camerawork, everything is phenominally done. I was sitting on the edge of my seat, waiting for the thing to happen.
The performances are magnificent from basically every single member of the incredibly stacked cast. Cillian Murphy is outstanding as Oppenheimer, Robert Downey Jr. is fantastic as Strauss, and Matt Damon is truly great as Groves. I could continue to name everyone else who is phenominal individually, but that would make for a very long list.
I only have small issues with the final hour, but nearly everything is amazing.
This movie is three hours long but still so well-structured.
Oppenheimer is many things; educational, interesting, complex, deep, thought-provoking, and masterful altogether. It's safe to call it a masterpiece - don't have it at five stars at this point, but it's very well possible that it gets there after a rewatch. It really sticks after the credits started rolling, and it keeps sticking much longer after that. This one has to bring in some Oscars.
