Perfect 1000th film. It's been a wonderful journey and I couldn't have chosen a better film for that milestone.
Tokyo Story is a deeply sad film. But that sadness comes from a place of truth. Ozu's always been about intergenerational relationships and this is one of his most heartbreaking film.
Children grow up and start to neglect their parents, seeing them as nuisances. This film shows us the devastating effect it has on the parents. The relationships here are so…
I find comfort in the slowness and ambience of this film. Not a single image and sound that wasn't meticulously crafted to keep you absorbed. Time loses all meaning when watching Stalker. It just flows so seamlessly from start to finish, hypnotizing the viewer and taking them on an unforgettable journey. Have no problems calling this my favourite film, whether it's for the time being or for good
Watching Breathless, you can see how it has undeniably impacted cinema. The style, the writing, the approach. Godard was clearly up to something with his first feature, a film I found, breezy, inventive, although a little detached. While I struggled a bit to get invested, it's definitely a film I'm glad to have seen. This is the birth of countless techniques I adore and the inspiration of many of my favourite auteurs
The end of my Bresson journey (as I couldn't find Four Nights of a Dreamer). I really dig his style, although I have to say I'm much more into his older stuff. Such an important and genuinely great filmmaker that is so often under looked. L'Argent was not my favourite of his by a long shot, although it's still worth checking out
Ok, my last review was wrong. This is an arthouse masterpiece! Seriously, I love how experimental this is. Boldly challenging the conventions of cinema at the time and even today it's quite challenging. The ultimate trip is the best way to describe this phenomenal accomplishment. It also helped change the way I saw films back when I first watched it. And while not my favourite Kubrick, it's still quite close!
