Nolan's best film by far. A dense and psychological masterstroke of complex emotions and American bloodlust. Some career best performances here in impressively little screentime (Downey, Blunt and Pugh stand out but even some of the smaller ones are still very striking, like Hartnett, Conti, Oldman, Affleck, and Safdie, plus this is literally the only time I've ever liked Jason Clarke in anything, oh, and I like Dane DeHaan finally having a win again, as brief as it is) and some truly next level cinematography and editing. The structure in general is incredibly clever and engaging and shows how far Nolan's come as a writer in comparison to his previous work (and when he's not backed by fucking David S. Goyer's untalented ass). Easily the year's best film as of now and I see few things topping it.
