The Lost City Of Gray’s review published on Letterboxd:
The God of Spinoza. Divine revelation is the fire within erupting.
The best feature of film as a medium is how it captures highlights. The scene in the office with the overexposed lights is Hoyte’s achievement of the film and of film. Or when a close-up of Oppenheimer casts his face in shadow against the hum of day. And when a Rembrandt triangle is applied with the touch of a painter.
Nolan made a musical. The movie is a symphony, with each piece of the structure being the winds, the brass, the strings. Ludwig Göransson with Nolan is as significant a filmmaker and composer chrysalis as Jonny Greenwood and Paul Thomas Anderson and Alexandre Desplat and Wes Anderson. The movie's sequences are assembled through the music. Time bleeds from scene to scene, but the music carries it as a singular continuum. It almost acts as a simulacrum of Oppenheimer (and Strauss') own mind or soul.
Robert Downey Jr does a mouth to the side tic in one scene, I believe the one headed by Matthew Modine, and it is an excellent piece of acting
