My husband said he'd never seen Moonstruck!
Now he wants to go see an opera, can you believe it?

Our wifi was out and so I got to break out my Criterion DVD of one of my favorite movies of all time for my kid on a freezing afternoon. We have recently been watching Gilmore Girls and it came to me that the fast-talking heroine Lorelei Gilmore, competent at everything except romantic relationships with a wit that cuts, is downright Hawksian. And so, I thought my kid would enjoy seeing an original. She laughed along with me, but sometimes…
Friday night movie night with the kid: I wish my Gen X husband had been home to watch this with us. My kid enjoyed, and it was fun enough for me to watch with her.
Harris Dickinson could dance for hours and I'd watch him, rapt. There's something lacking here though? Like it didn't push the edge it was teetering on? I thought it might go in a little bit of Yorgos Lanthimos direction at one point, just something wild and uncomfortable, but for the most part it's fine. And while I was entertained all the way through (which included watching this in a NJ theater with a bunch people on DATES; love to people watch), that ending was a dud. More more more gimme more chaos!! Make me feel something!!

I have a dear friend whose favorite actor is Timothee Chalamet. In years past, I've agreed to go into NYC from Jersey to catch Bones and All. And that was worth it! This one, fortunately, was only a short drive away. I would have been real miffed if I'd trekked to see it. Still love my friend, and Timothee was solid as always.

I definitely napped during this... but there were some funny moments I did see! Kid enjoyed, at least.

Seeing this after watching La Chimera earlier this year; whew. I see, I see! Also, lovely coincidence to watch Isabella Rossellini in Conclave set in Vatican City one day, and her mother's radiance set in Naples the next.
You can always tell when I'm sick, because I log this again. How many times has my husband walked into the bedroom to me asleep and this just going and going? At least it's streaming now and we've moved on from the DVD title card on repeat. Anyway, it never lets me down!!! For decades at this point!!!
Incredible to behold, I loved it so much even as I watched in a fevered haze.
Came upon it as it started on Criterion's live channel. I will always love the live channel surf discovery mode!
Friday night movie night with the kid: she enjoyed the ghosts and the scares, and especially the stay puft man. Many jokes flew over her head. But she certainly knows what writhing is now.
Doesn't exactly have the power it did when I rented it on VHS in the 90s, when I was on my Spanish film kick and Penelope Cruz was IT, but I still enjoyed the thrill. ...Vanilla Sky may be slicker, but it explains too much by its end, and I prefer the way the pieces are left here for the viewer to pull together on their own.
