Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

The same day as watching a pretty mediocre movie with animated elements I decided to watch one of the most highly regarded animated movies of the last 10 years and it was great. From start to finish this was one of the most engaging and satisfying movie-watching experiences I've had in a long time and that applies for every aspect of the movie.
The plot features one of the best ways a very cliched and overused stories is told and that is of overcoming adversity and challenges to be the best version of yourself. Just writing that made me think of a million different movies, but this one tells it in such a compelling way and doesn't rely on the cliches that much which makes it a fresh viewing experience.
This plot also features plenty of great main and supporting characters that steal the show. Miles Morales is perfectly written and this version of Spider-Man finally got his own time to shine and I'm excited to see where they take this character in future sequels. The other versions of Spider-Man are also very entertaining with Peter B. Parker complementing Miles perfectly as his mentor and Gwen Stacy being a solid love interest and a good character on her own. I also have to mention Spider-Man Noir and Spider-Ham as they didn't have big roles but stole the show whenever they were on screen and I love the fact that Nicolas Cage lends his voice to Spider-Man Noir. Kingpin is the main villain of the movie and he served as a great antagonist to our heroes and his design was very comic-accurate and interesting.
The visual design of the whole movie is interesting, but it is also brilliant with every scene perfectly conveying the feeling it wants to convey with the different speeds and styles of animation. This visual flair is also enhanced by the music that accompanies it and makes every scene even better.
Before watching this someone might think that we don't need another Spider-Man origin story, but this movie is not only a worthy introduction to a character not yet explored by Hollywood, it is also one of the best superhero films ever released and the best Spider-Man movie thus far.
