SECOND VIEWING
Second time around I’ve well and truly fallen in love with Damien Chazelle’s homage and throwback. I can find absolutely no fault with how pure and beautiful the production design and filmmaking are. It’s flawless. The opening scene is a spectacle in every sense of the word and opens with such charisma and energy I couldn’t help but just want to get up and dance. The performances from both Stone and Gosling are stunning, especially the former who I can’t find a single fault within her performance. My only real gripe is the lack of representation and colour in the film, I don’t want to add on the “white man saving jazz” debacle but I hate to say, it frustrates me not being able to see a role that was clearly written for a black actor not played by a black actor.
