Jesus. What is it with memorable classic films in that people hated them when they were first released. Apparently on the Scene Selection from the DVD I own of It’s a Wonderful Life, the movie was lambasted by critics for being "too sentimental." It also was a failure at the box office and lost at the Oscars on three major categories. Yes, this beloved holiday classic was treated like shit when it was first released. It's honestly quite interesting that a film like this was deeply hated by people.
It also says on the Scene Selection for It's a Wonderful Life that it will "continue to enthrall audiences for many more generations to come." It's honestly amazing that this film's whole premise is relatable to today about feeling down during the holidays and yet that this wasn't seen in a positive light until years later. How could you hate a film like It’s a Wonderful Life? Man, I really missed out on a lot from the first time I watched this. It's truly outstanding that a film from 1946 is relatable by today's standards. George Bailey, you lucky bastard.
