Despite being eons better compared to that dreadful 1980s version, Evil Dead 2013 still feel hollow. I mean, okay, this supernatural movie has truly terrifying practical and special effects, but the over emphasis on gore and violence should've been directed to strengthening the plot and characters instead. The reliance of Evil Dead on clichés and thriller tropes is laughable too - go take a shot when someone stumbles and had to crawl while getting away from the entity and you'd be drunk in no time. It's absurd. Plus, the acting is weak.
Admittedly, theres juice of entertainment and fun with the gore, and Evil Dead knows that's exactly the route they're taking. That, at least should be applauded.
