Mann’s most colossal work for me. Everything I love about his films packed into one near-3-hour epic. The portrayal of city nightlife, the sincere soundtrack, and a fascinating core dynamic. Each character feels like a chess piece for Vincent and Neil to use against the other. They both have clear paths and motives for escaping one another, yet are still drawn back to one another like magnets. Vincent can’t exist without the Neils of the world, and Neil can’t exist…
