Alien³ 1992
Forgot to log this last year when we were ramping up to Alien: Romulus (2024) which we still haven’t seen, oops. Not as bad as I was lead to believe by how hellish production was and by how disgusted Fincher is at it. Makes some horrible decisions but has a semi-solid first half. After that, eh, not so much

Ocean's Eight 2018
Lovely ladies having fun! No tension at all - other than that between Bullock and Blanchett. Much like Danny and Rusty in Ocean's Eleven (2001), they should've kissed!

A Single Man 2009
You know what, the colours saturating never got old. I thought it might run dry after it had come and gone a few times, but it only seemed to get stronger. Then at some point it gets wholly intertwined with the story and falls away, until you find yourself catching that it hasn't went back to grey in so long...and then you're hit with the ending

Unbreakable 2000
Just has that something special about it. Doesn’t sacrifice the more fantastical elements to keep it real. Family drama wrapped in a superhero origin story. So many gut shots*. Has a big heart, and yeah, it’s a bit silly, but that’s not detrimental
*‘When was the first time the thought popped into your head we might not make it?’
‘I had a nightmare one night and I didn’t wake you up so you could tell me it was okay’ -

Mission: Impossible 1996
God, it's going to be amazing when they reveal that the CIA agent they inadvertently relocated to Alaska by poisoning him into violently puking (and presumably shitting?) his guts out has been the series' big bad guy all along. He's in the cast list for Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning (2025)!

Nosferatu 2024
A lifetime achievement for Eggers who dares to ask: moustache?
Eggers' fingerprints are all over this. Atmospheric and haunting with a smart sense on when to introduce some brief levity, I really dug it. Also love when filmmakers remember they can employ people to help light their scenes
Got to give it to Lily-Rose Depp as well. I remember being disappointed when I heard she’d be replacing Anya Taylor-Joy but I reel that all back in. Can’t imagine anyone else putting up what she does here

An Urban Allegory 2024
Incredible use of 21 minutes. Love it when a short film makes it feel as though I could go outside right now and make something just as good. Also hate it because I can’t! But maybe one day…
