“prayers don’t do a god damn thing.”
a slowly creeping offbeat dread that fully infects your psyche, patiently descending into unsalvageable madness. Osgood Perkins’ divisive, scarily sinister Longlegs violently pulls onlookers into its excruciatingly paranoid atmosphere, leaving you abnormally suspicious of surroundings & who may occupy them — you can’t even trust the shadows that never fail to follow you. aesthetically focused and darkly gorgeous, its meticulously symmetrical visuals, skin-crawling score, heart-pounding performances (Cage and Monroe murdered it), & exceptional editing hypnotized me. a disquieting audiovisual experience straight from hell, perhaps limbo. the grim screenplay somewhat varies in consistency & goes down a wildly unexpected path, but i mostly found it to be very solid; there are some genuinely unsettling and memorable moments throughout. i feel like i need to see the picture again to fully gather my thoughts on it, expecting the thematic shifts would likely be greatly beneficial upon rewatch.
the man downstairs is on his way up, there is no way to truly escape him. no matter where you go, who you are, or what you do, he will inevitably catch up to you — his presence is everywhere & nowhere at once. that horrific evil lingers like the unmistakable scent of decaying bodies.
