As a major fan of the original, I couldn't help but feel underwhelmed. And there really isn't much to say. Almost exactly like it just with a pair of leads that don't hold a candle to Tyler and Speedman. There was zero chemistry for me and the dialouge was downright bad at times. And they just make the worst decisions. The Strangers themselves feel like a downgrade. How can you make those characters/masks worse? I dunno.
However, I did enjoy the pacing as it had an overall different tone than the original. The crawlspace scene was cool. And there were a couple of old ladies behind me who very audibly gasped when the rat appeared. Which was funny.
I will stick it out to see what comes together as this will be a trilogy. Petsch is pretty cool and am eager to see the direction this goes in. Personally I'm hoping she goes on the offense and enacts some vengeance.
