i’ve tried to get through this film multiple times to the point where i’m just logging it.
i’ll make it known that when it comes to video game adaptations that i genuinely don’t like them. i’m a very firm believer that some things just need to be left alone. and who could of guessed! that the borderlands film is yet another example of why we should just leave some things the fuck alone.
that’s not to say i haven’t seen some incredible video game adaptations in my life. i think that arcane, cyberpunk edgerunners, fallout and the last of us are among some of the best videogame adaptations i’ve seen as they just get it RIGHT. i’m well aware that there are many upcoming video game adaptations on the way and i can’t help but roll my eyes at some of them. the minecraft film i am looking directly at you. that being said this film is just collectively bad.
i’ve played borderlands 3 and it’s a fantastic game! i’m not the biggest fan of the franchise but i do like it and am quite familiar with it. i can recall hearing that once upon a time this script was apparently very good which is why people like jamie lee curtis and cate blanchett signed on in the first place. it’s so disappointing to see just downhill everything went with all the rewrites and eli roth’s shitty directing. i knew as soon as this was in post production for years that it wasn’t looking good…
almost everyone was hugely miscasted, the script and dialogue were fucking unbearable and the set and cgi look so bland and dry. i know some of the people in here KNOW how to act because i have seen so before, unfortunately it just doesn’t help with a bad script and bad casting on top that which makes the the whole film fall apart. i might be incredibly delusional but part of me had an ounce of hope that this would be somewhat good. i hope this is a learning curve not only for eli roth but for people in hollywood to just put a holt on videogame adaptations.
if you’re looking for a videogame adaptation about people in the wasteland involving vaults that came out in 2024 i’ve got just the one for you! and i’ll have you know it’s not this one…
