I have always had an interest in movies, especially animated ones when I was younger. I was weirdly obsessed with Pixar and knew random facts about every movie by them. Exactly one year ago I had an epiphany while watching a movie. Here’s the story:
It was the night of January 7, 2017. It all went down at an AMC theater. My group of friends had planned to go see the new comedy "Why Him?" I didn't think it looked very interesting but it was the popular vote in the group. When going to get the tickets, we are told the showing is sold out. Everyone but me was disappointed. What else could we watch? I had seen a trailer for a movie that seemed good and noticed it was now playing. "Let's watch La La Land" I said. Seeing how there was no other movies playing at the time, everyone reluctantly accepted. I walked in to the theater hoping to see a good movie. I got more than that. The movie transfixed me. I was speechless as the credits started to roll. When we came out t of the theater, I stayed behind while my friends went to get food. Standing outside the theater, alone, I started to write my thoughts on the movie and posted a picture with the caption being how much I loved the movie. A friend of mine, who had also seen the movie, reached out and told me that she loved the movie as well. What I replied is something I still stand by. I said “I want to make the next La La Land. I want to be known for making a good movie.”
La La Land has flaws. But La La Land captured me and made me love film. Thank you Mr. Damien Chazelle for this wonderful movie.
