La La land is a film like no other. What never fails to amaze me beyond the editing, the lighting, the music etc. is that the film itself is an allegory for its message. The film says that it’s important to move forward but we must never forget our roots. The film is a constant love letter to old school Hollywood wether it’s by subtle reference or by blatantly showing that movie on screen. But the whole feel of it is so different and alive and nothing like you have ever seen before. People call this overrated and can bash the ending all they like but this film is just poetic. There’s so much to delve into but as usual imma be a dumbass and only do the main stuff. - The cinematography is so rich. Every colour is fiercely ejaculated onto the screen. There’s tons of colour symbolism and it’s only furthered by the lighting. All of it is controlled and fine lined to make a film as beautiful as humanly possible. Justin Hurwitz is the new John Williams. Every single song is tailor made to give to you goosebumps. The soundtrack just cheers me up but whenever I watched the film, I get a rush that just puts a smile on my face and faster beat in my chest. - A while ago I came back from school with a huge frown on and I just crashed. There was no Bergman Tarkovsky Antonioni or Kurosawa epic that could’ve possibly cheered me up. But Chazelle’s BP snub, La La Land is what put a grin on my face and a tingle in my limbs. I love La La Land to death and you can bash it if u want it makes me love it more. A*
