I wish Kate Beckinsale would somersault over my head and rip my entire spine out of my living body, too.
it seems like they just completely forgot who they were making this film for. i guess there will always be an audience for anything dumb and loud, but how do you fuck up a franchise this badly? there was so much potential and it was completely wasted.

Well, we've reached the end of our little marathon and as you can see from my rating, it wasn't the most exciting series of movies I've done, but it wasn't bad journey either. It has its good action moments, there are some great talent in front of the camera that are good to watch perform and good to look at for both males and females, and of course the lore is interesting enough to keep you entertained. At least, it did for me.
However, since this last installment doesn't feature many of the original cast, none of the new characters have been interesting enough to draw my attention, except for Tobias…
Selene's voice-overs at the beginning of each of those movies are hilarious:
"For six centuries I was a loyal soldier of the Vampire clan. But I was betrayed"
"In one night the lies that have united our kind have been exposed."
"I was turned by a Vampire. Given the strength to avenge my family against the Lycans. And I was good at it."
"Then I found Michael Corvin, a human that was turned to neither Vampire nor Lycan, but a hybrid of the two. Everything changed."
"I was captured, not knowing that I was carrying Michael's child. (...) I have lived beyond my time. Another new moon in a thousand years of new moons. And I do not care to see it. I have nothing. My coven...my daughter...my love, all gone. And soon, perhaps...my very existence."
Girl should go on Oprah's show with that stuff.
So, this is not the action packed rollercoaster ride the previous film was. Instead we get something that feels like it was written by some goth teenager who just bingewatched all of Game of Thrones. But, oddly enough, I didn't hate it. The story goes in some interesting directions and the production values aren't bad for the fifth film in a franchise that very few people were demanding more sequels for. Maybe I just have Stockholm syndrome with this franchise or something, but I actually kind of liked the way this wrapped things up, in case we don't get any more sequels. Selene joins a hippy commune, becomes the Kwisatz Haderach and comes back at the turn of the tide…
Since this series has mercilessly ripped off Blade multiple times, it seems only fitting to paraphrase the greatest movie superhero of all time —
“Some franchises are always trying to ice-skate up hill”

Week 9: Werewolves
I have no shame in admitting that I loveloveLOVE the first Underworld and not just because it was originally released on my birthday (although seeing my birthdate on the poster was awesome). It’s just a really fun movie and Kate Beckinsale is so amazing and beautiful. I also really like part 2, but this is a rare (for me) series where each sequel just steps down a bit from the one before it. Like, I probably wouldn’t make a ranked list of these because it would just be the order in which they were released with this being in 5th place. Still, it’s pretty entertaining even if it’s nowhere near…

Oh my god someone is wearing something other than black leather. I was so happy to see the nordic vampires, they are wearing WHITE leather.
Like I am not joking, a striking visual difference between the factions is something this series seriously needed. Everyone wears black leather and all the fights are just a cluster of bodies draped in black against dark coloured backdrops. It's a mess.
The Underworld movies plots are like a DM who's game has gone on longer than he expected. Here is the war between Werewolves and Vampires. Turns out both are evil. Ummm, Baby? Half Vampire Baby. Ummm, it's blood gives superpowers.
Magic Nordic Vampires? I don't know guys, I just wanna run Mechwarrior now.
A poster child for #UnnecessarySequels, this looks like a Sy-Fy Original.
I'm aware of the answer to "what were they thinking?" but I also get why people would ask.
A fair number of the actors seem to be giving it their all, which I find reasonably admirable, given the dreck they have to work with. An utterly incoherent plot, it felt like a third of the movie was flashbacks to earlier entries.
SO MUCH slow-mo! None of it mattered.
The only really compliment I have besides the efforts of the dedicated cast is that the Final Showdown involves a tactic I find moderately underutilized when killing vampires.
