Look, every criticism of this movie is accurate, but I laughed and clapped when people died in fun ways and said funny lines so maybe I'm just a dumb man with simple tastes.
the autistic character in this film isn’t a character, he is a device. the only traits he’s established to have are the ones that neurotypical society have defined us by, he melts down, he is sensitive to sounds, he cannot interact socially in a normal way, he is bullied. he exists in a state of constant torment or anxiety because that’s the only human understanding of autism that the writers have, a human being who is just an amalgamation of tics and trauma. but then, his inhumanity is used as a trope, he is treated as this mystical being, this savant, this genius above humanity to work for plot related reasons, he exists to keep the story rolling, a cypher…
Perhaps the best thing that can be said about “The Predator” is that, at times, you can appreciate what Shane Black was trying to accomplish. A noble but profoundly botched attempt to crossbreed an ’80s action movie with contemporary franchise sensibilities, “The Predator” wants to take what’s old and make it new again. By the gutless standards of current studio filmmaking, that practically makes the film a mad science experiment. But this miserable chimera — skinned with Black’s wicked sense of humor, but too underdeveloped to survive on its wits alone — should never have been let out of the lab, as it poses a serious threat of boring people to death.
Arriving more than 30 years since Arnold Schwarzenegger…
There's intermittent fun stuff in this, and a lot of good Shane Black gags, but this bears all the hallmarks of a hellacious post and a bunch of reshoots. Characters bounce from scene to scene and place to place without warning and the tonal whiplash is apparent in a way Black usually covers with really deceptively economic setup/payoff storytelling. It's also probably time to admit that the guy might be a terrific writer but he has a pretty bland visual sense and can't really shoot action at all. Anyway the seams are all over the place even while it remains fun. The last scene should be the beginning of the third act.
Every time someone says "Shut the fuck up!" take a drink.
after the movie i ran to catch my bus but it was dark so i ran into a tree and got cut by a branch and it was like the movie was still going on
I guess I’m the only one, but I thoroughly enjoyed this 🤷♂️
Tons of gore, lots of action, and many laughs. I left the theater pretty darn satisfied and somewhat surprised by the mostly negative reception this is getting.
Honestly, this is basically the cast of Con Air taking on an alien that rips people to shreds. Idk about you, but I freaken love Con Air.
Fun.
Asked my sister as we were leaving if she’d seen any of the other movies and her response was
“Yeah remember we saw Prometheus.”
Close enough?
