Feels like a 2000s cheesy horror flick, and not a terrible one at that! The "Taker of Children" entity was pretty cool and I liked the folklore backstory. The mortuary setting was a great addition. It was pretty wild at times and entertaining but i'd be lying if I said any of it made sense. The acting is decent, the CGI isn't that bad and the jumpscares are cheap. It's very much filled with cliché horror elements but it had it's enjoyable moments.

Loved the story & the ending!
Unfortunately the demon was not scary, so much so that it brought down the film.
I’d have preferred to have been shown less of that demon. There’s no shame if the budget or vision isn’t fully realized - often what isn’t seen is scarier than what is.
-
Fresh off of Passover, it seems appropriate that The Offering reminds me so much of matzah. Which is to say it’s flat, thin, bland, cheap, and desperately needing sauce or cheese or sugar to make it palatable.

A Jew, a demon and an uncreative horror film with always the same plot and ending walks into a bar...

Score : 7.5/10 ✅
Don’t know why I feel alone with my score, which feels pretty high compared to the rest, but I sincerely thought it was quite solid. It’s another folklore film with a ton of jump scare and demon rituals but done right.
I actually got scared a few times and was legitimately invested in the story. The acting was good enough, the demon/creature was interestingly imposing (even if it’s highly CGI’d) but where my praise comes from is due to the final 15 minutes. Incredibly well done and refreshing.
The Offering is intriguingly haunting despite the fact it felt overly familiar. Had a good time with it, definitely worth a watch.

This is another supernatural that just didn't quite make the grade. It did have it's dark and creepy moments and a few jump scares here and there.
5.7/10

Jewish demon takes over Hasidic Jewish family business
-
Pretty generic with cheap jump scares. 93 minutes long but it felt like 2hrs. Some decent performances are the highlight for me. Didn't expect much with this so I'm not surprised.
-
Atmospheric; bleak; dull; eerie; folkloric; nonsensical; short; slow-burning; well-made.

I picked this kind of at random and because it sounded similar to The Vigil and it ended up being pretty good! Its not as good as that movie, but it does make me think there’s some uncharted horror territory to be covered in the Hasidic Jewish community!
This checks a lot of my boxes with a creepy old house/morgue which is used to great effect. There are some decent scares and the demon actually looks pretty nice after the initial first peek at it which is just some awkward cgi.
I would rate this higher if it weren’t for some basic bitch level generic ass jump scares it throws in that just completely take you out of the terrific atmosphere.…
