Wow, before James Wan these films were even worse.
In these movies kids are always like "sorry I had to because they demon wanted to" but I say demon or not, you shouldn't succumb to peer pressure... what I'm saying is that this family got what they deserved.

Decent acting aside, The Amityville Horror just isn't a very good movie. It has some of the weakest, cheapest and most painfully annoying jump-scares I've seen in recent memory.
You know those jokes about white families in horror movies just willinging prancing into the house equivalent of hell? Yeah, this is that movie.
Seriously, if you ever feel the need to see this just watch or rewatch The Conjuring. Same style of film, just done infinitely better.

This one has a lot of issues but i won’t lie my main gripe with it was that Ryan Reynolds is cartoonishly cut like he’s going for a supermodel version of Gosling in The Notebook, meanwhile James Brolin in the original film is way hotter as standard-build gruff 70s lumberjack. Wanna give it some credit for telling this story in a blunt 90 minutes and not 2 hours (dropping most of the useless priest stuff in the 70s one) but the horror imagery is so generic it doesn’t really make much of a difference. zero mood, and the Andrew Kramer demon face shit is hilarious.

Way underrated in my opinion. This is one of the rare horror remakes that is able to get it right, it’s respectful to the original whilst also managing to be something of its own. I thought the way it was filmed was so cool, it looks so 70s, and that’s helped along by the fabulous costuming and hair styling. All in all a really good horror movie I reckon.
P.S Ryan Reynolds with that beard and that body, HOLD ME BACK!!

Jesus fuck, what an awful piece of shit. I mean, I knew when I put it on my list it wasn't going to be anything great but, hell, I didn't think it was this bad.
There is zero reason to watch this over the original. None. Nada. Not even Ryan Reynolds with his best attempt at a Brolin beard running around in wet pajama bottoms is worth sitting through this bullshit.
