  I think I’m in love with Jason Reitman...

  This is how you dispel fake news, show people something they hate, make them sympathetic, then mad at themselves for being sympathetic. The same technique Hitchcock uses in Psycho to make you root for the bad guy, Reitman uses here in Thank You for Smoking. Despite Naylor not doing one kind thing in the movie, you’re still rooting for him.

  It’s a super fun watch. It’s a snappy, and witty. It reminds me a lot of Mad Men, except you hate all the characters a lot more. There’s something disarming about someone’s willingness to ignore so much hate from the world. I think that’s a great way to get you on the side…

  A wonderful Jason Reitman film that I can't remember that well. This is just a landing ground for recent Letterboxd ex-smokers to bitch about how much they want to smoke.

  Just for reference, I'm a 35+ year smoker who quit at the beginning of Jan. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to enjoy movies anymore. Well, that's not true. I worried I couldn't write reviews anymore ( because I always punctuated writing them with smoke breaks ), well, that's a bit more true, but becoming less.

  This film is incredible.

  To change the viewpoint of who the heroes and villains are in this story adds to the comedy because of it's absurdity. We root for the scumbag Tobacco advocate who is literally going to kids classrooms and promoting smoking. While on the other end of the spectrum, the audience hates the health advocates. Sidenote, I love hating on William Macy in films. This and Fargo he is so whiney and bitchy, I love him.

  I had a blast with this film! The short run time was perfect for an idiot like me and I genuinely loved how we know we are rooting for the enemies the entire time, and the film leans into that. It's a self aware, comedic masterpiece.

  I love how this movie is written. It’s really witty and clever, and very self aware. Aaron Eckhart is one of those actors who is always solid, but usually has either a very small part, is in a really shitty movie, or both of those things at the same time (with the exception of this and The Dark Knight for the most part).

  The only drawback is that this feels a little too much like an Adam McKay political film, and not in a good way.
