Once again we happen upon a film derided by the masses, yet loved by me. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure, and trash is my pleasure.
This third film is direct to video, and boy it shows. Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of DTV films that look as good as theatrical films, but this isn’t one of them. It’s cheeeap. I’m talking laughably cheap. Like, a couple of steps above Troll 2. It’s glorious.
The demon faces look like masks from that one Goosebumps episode, there’s little gore to be had, what we do get it is ok but nothing compared to the previous films, one demon gets a snake arm that’s straight up a puppet, they…
ANGELA IS UP TO HER OLD TRICKS AGAIN!!!
Wow I hadn't seen this in a long time. Maybe ten years. Dusted off the ol DVD and dived into some truly clunky direct to video madness. First off...those intro graphics...dayum! That's some Windows 96 mayhem right there. 2D dingus demons flying all around looking like some Disney channel Halloween special. So yeah basically it rules and I laughed hard.
Released two years after part two this one shares some of the same flat 90s aesthetic, low budget sets and nightmare teens. But this time it's even cheaper, more tacky and void of reason. And man these actors are wack. You know those lame 90s actors that look like wannabe well known…
A very, very disappointing sequel to the two great predecessors. It looks cheap, the cast is dull and untalented and the direction is just uninspired. And the writing, the writing is really bad. Makes you appreciate a good lovingly written B-movie script. I love the first two Demons movies but this one just absolutely bored me. The special effects use way too much (very bad) CGI and not even the copious amount of nudity can save this one. My advice, watch the first two movies and skip this turkey.
Angela is still at it, trying to eat peoples souls. Oh dear the quality really took a dip with this one. Some super hot guys in it though. 90s bad boys. Also…ACAB!!
Film 3/45 for Hooptober 4.0
3/6 of 6 Sequels
Even though the 90's is not known for producing great horror films, it will always hold a special place in my cold, black heart because for most of that decade, I was an awkward, misunderstood, grungy teenager. That means I watched a LOT of horror during that time frame. More than anything else, I remember the billions of DTV sequels that came from the 90's because I'm pretty sure I watched every single one of them. I should remind you that I worked in a video store at the time which meant I had unlimited access to free movie rentals and I often took home three or four a night. Dang…
Whacky opening credits are neat! 1997 CGI lol
Damn! This one is underrated.
Gets right into the action. Teens are charming. Tons of goofy practical effects, and an R-rated ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK? vibe.
This was highlighted when I noticed the actors had Canadian as-hell accents, so I checked, and of course, this was shot in Quebec - and it shares a whopping 12 crew members/actors with the original AR YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK TV show.
I guess you could dislike all the dodgy CG effects in this (which are used to morph into practical gore gags), but I found them delightful. If you can't enjoy a hand morphing into a snake puppet, I can't help you.
The usual demonic madness that you would expect, just with a significantly cheaper look.
This is dialogue right at the end of this movie by the way, after characters survived and got out of the haunted house:
- "let's come back next Halloween."
- "why?"
- "to make sure this doesn't happen again... And every Halloween after that till I die."
oh god..
It took me years to watch this third movie, because the second one had already put me off enough. And, really, I wasn't missing much... if the previous one had already irritated me, this one got worse. Right away, you can tell that the performances are amateurish and that the characters are caricatured to the extreme, they act as the script finds convenient. The shooting scene in the store surprised me, because it was something I didn't expect in a movie like this and, at first, I even thought it was cool and well done, but it also soon became crude and meaningless. The way they sexualize women is so ridiculous, it's embarrassing... I feel sorry for the actresses who agreed to do this. On the positive side, I would say Angela's participation, the look of the demons is not bad (under the circumstances) and the effects are even well crafted.
oh man, this blows! it definitely was a disappointment considering how much i love the other two movies but at least angela was slaying, as per usual. <3
Night of the Demons 3 (1997) is a movie I recently watched for the first time on a random streaming service. The storyline follows some kids out for a good time on Halloween that during a mixup rob a store and shoot a police officer. They look to hideout in a house they come across to get their heads together, they just picked the wrong house...
This movie is directed by Jim Kaufman (The Hunter) and stars Amelia Kinkade (Demons 1 & 2), Larry Day (Arrival), Kris Holden-Ried (Underworld: Awakening), Gregory Calpakis (iZombie) and Joel Gordon (Max Payne).
The storyline for this was very uneven and Angela was far more assertive in this picture. I did like the opening animation, classic…
