i’ll get you, even if i have to crawl back from the grave to do it! ୧ ⊹ ۫.
୨୧ i swear bette never looked more beautiful ! her eyes are incredibly big and beautiful, which reminds me of a blythe doll. and oh my, her performance was absolutely incredible ! It's unbelievable that she wasn't even nominated for best actress.
humphrey looked so young and attractive, which is quite weird - not the attractive part, he has always been attractive haha and his character was soo hot that i was blushing ♡
i thought i would never be so anxious as i was during the first trial scene, but as the movie progressed, even more intense scenes came and i…
Lloyd Bacon’s film-noir in which a crusading District Attorney fights to get a nightclub hostess to testify against her gangster boss. Starring Bette Davis, Humphrey Bogart and Lola Lane.
The story concerns sizzling nightclub dame Mary Dwight Strauber (Bette Davis) who observes a murder at the Club Intime, but is frightened to appear against her smarmy manager, disreputable gangster (Eduardo Ciannelli).
When Mary's blameless sister (Jane Bryan) gets caught up in Johnny’s noise and winds up deceased, Mary at last vintages to burden from the District Attorney (Humphrey Bogart) and approves to attest against Johnny in court, notwithstanding of the death intimidations she takes from his henchmen.
Bette Davis gives a very good performance in her role as the fiery…
Definitely a step up from the past few Bette pictures I’ve watched. This one had a great story with some really kickass ladies, great actresses featured in some good roles and of course the outfits and gowns were to die for.
This is the only Hustlers (2019) I know! Idk what was going on in the thirties, but between this and Stage Door there seems to be a theme of a group of female friends tossing aside toxic men to solidify their power in a group. It gives me that buzz!!!
the five women walking at the end of this movie > the two guys walking at the end of casablanca
the tea is bette davis is so fucking hot
8/10
Marked Woman is mainly a Bette Davis film as she is incredible in it. Her character is tough and raw and does what she needs to do. Bogart is the DA and he’s trying to get Davis to help him out her boss behind bars.
The film has some great lines and terrific acting. The story is very engaging and a little ahead of its time. I felt it struggled a bit towards the end, but the final conversation between Davis and Bogart feels a lot like Casablanca, but this film is years before it. I really enjoyed this film with two serious heavyweight actors.
There's no one else who can command the screen quite like Bette Davis. It's just impossible to look away from her, and—lucky for me— this film is actually one of her better ones, so I didn't have to suffer through it just for her. It includes Bette in a cute hairstyle, a younger Humphrey Bogart, female friendships (not the main focus, but I take whatever I can get ok!), and a plot that actually feels like it carries weight and real consequences.
3.4/5
"No matter what you do or where you go, we'll meet again." What a great line. Also, Bette Davis and Humphrey Bogart.
A really compelling story that makes for interesting viewing in this (post-)#MeToo era. Bette Davis does really well, although the hysterics were a little too much sometimes. Humphrey Bogart also does well, but he wasn't in it as much as I was expecting.
“you choose to think that you can get through the world by outsmarting it. well, i’ve learned that those kind of people generally end up outsmarting themselves, and that’s exactly what’s going to happen to you.”
the film unfolds in the underbelly of the city's nightlife, a world where morality is as malleable as the shadowy figures that inhabit it. at the center of this labyrinthine world of a ruthless mobster is mary dwight strauber, portrayed with an indomitable spirit and nuanced complexity by the incomparable bette davis. mary, a nightclub hostess, navigates a precarious existence under the thumb of the malevolent gangster, nightclub owner, and racketeer johnny vanning; a role eduardo ciannelli infuses with a chilling blend of charm…
desperately need to know what lipgloss humphrey bogart was wearing in this movie
