seeing "Disney Presents The Simpsons" before a Pixar film is a really weird thing that happened in this timeline.
this short film is cute though.
Saw it in the theater preceding Pixar's Onward and enjoyed it much more than the feature. It was brilliantly crafted and I'm surprised to see how people are dismissing this. This short focuses on the littlest sister from The Simpsons: Maggie. She is a good driver and her skateboarding moves would impress Tony Hawk. I say give it a chance and have a few laughs.
Vegan alert:
Maggie drinks milk.
Watching Disney flaunt this new possession is kind of like when a friend is gifted a great guitar, but has no idea how to play it.
Seeing Mickey Mouse sitting in the audience of the Gracie Films logo is a perversion the likes of which David Cronenberg or Clive Barker couldn't even begin to imagine.
I think I’ve found the solution to how The Simpsons can still thrive in this Disney-controlled era...
...just cancel the damn show and get David Silverman to pump out more of these Maggie shorts instead
I sat bundled up at the drive-in waiting for 'Onward' to begin ... when what to my wondering eyes did appear but a delightful Simpsons short starring a miniature couple that offered 5 minutes of pure cheer!
This was definitely an unforeseen positive to Disney buying out Fox.
I hated this. I used to love The Simpsons, and sure I haven't watched in quite a while, but this pretty much felt nothing like the show in the worst of ways.
It just felt completely tone deaf in what it was going for, and some scenes end up playing out pretty fucking creepily. I feel like I should go watch The Simpsons movie just to get this bad taste out of my mouth.
Thanks to the kid who screamed out “I don’t wanna watch this!” right at the beginning.
A review of Pixar's Onward is coming on tomorrow's Cinema Eclectica, which unfortunately means I saw this short before it. The opening credits triumphantly declare that The Simpsons has come to Disney, and this is absolutely what you'd fear from Disney Simpsons: a homogenized, sentimental bastardisation of what was once the only sitcom that actually meant something. Given the general lack of respect the Mouse House has shown to Fox's library since the takeover - refusing to let independent cinemas show classic Fox films, for instance - this isn't entirely surprising. When Disney acquired Marvel and re-acquired Pixar they let those studios keep doing what they did - they were both insanely profitable, after all. But The Simpsons has been…
