  refreshing to see this type of no bullshit action programmer hitting theater screens in 2024 — the action is violent, mostly constant, and opts for slow motion over quick cuts and it isn’t afraid to get weird (like a final act sequence where the action takes brief breaks to allow Russel Crowe to go grocery shopping for vegan cheese); contrary to its title, not bad!

  This movie kinda smokes. 
  I hate to use “throwback” like others have described this because it’s more that they just put a lot more care and craft into both the story, the characters and the execution than we’ve seen as of late. 
  Feels like a movie Tony Scott would have elevated back in the day before he had his visual midlife crisis. 
Eubanks favors cleaner coverage and elegant slo mo over shaky RAID like histrionics and the results if incredibly slick, engaging and sometimes even beautifully rendered action with a lot of talent across the board. 
  Crowe makes a thankless “desk job” role into something way more impactful and human. 
  10 cuts above the usual Redbox or Netflix action fare.

  Russell Crowe straight up loves talking on the phone with special operators. Eubank has such a deep bag (Underwater, Next of Kin), that he makes pure drone porn super engaging. There's two Hemsworths in this, and Russell Crowe probably got to keep his golf glove, but I have to say: Milo Ventimiglia thinks he's in a Richard Brooks movie and he made me want to enlist.

  With Underwater this guy effectively stole some of the visual vocabulary of Alien for his own generic January survival-action programmer, here he's done the same thing but with Black Hawk Down. He should do [spins the wheel of Ridley Scott] Gladiator next!

  Anyway, once again, pretty solid stuff with just enough ambitiously stylized Tom Clancy: First Blood tactical shooter action (including some brutal wide-angle close-quarters brawls/gunfights and dynamic slo-mo missile explosion photography) and personality in the performances to keep it from devolving entirely into the cheap, boring jingoistic nonsense it easily could've been. Liam Hemsworth is perfectly serviceable as the scared rookie JTAC member of a CIA rescue mission in the Philippines gone horribly, explosively wrong named "Playboy", but as…

  Recht generische „Behind Enemy Lines“-Variation, die natürlich auch nicht mehr erzählt als „Amerika gut, alle anderen böse“. Die Action ist immerhin knackig inszeniert und gut gefilmt. Warum man die aber alle 5 Minuten mit nem unnötigen Subplot unterbricht, in dem Russell Crowe entweder einen Bildschirm anschreit oder Käse einkauft, erschloss sich mir nicht.

  I love movies that put special ops/delta forces in hostile territories where the mission will unavoidably go to shit. It never gets old and I’m all here for it.

  I was actually impressed by the explosive cinematography, the slow-motion effects, and the brutality of it. It’s a great action flick. I know it feels like more of the same but I truly enjoyed it. The Liam Hemsworth and Russell Crowe combo, even if they are never sharing a scene physically, was a good idea. They crushed it.

  There’s a great combination of relentless danger and a very good sequence of urgency near the end. Good old-fashioned action moment from the 80’s right there.

  One film you’ll love if you like your action movies uncomplicated and straight to the point.

  Terrible title aside, this is a pretty serviceable actioner; not exactly Bay level quality of mayhem here but the action is nice and violent and there’s plenty of slomo explosions to go around. Crowe is as reliable and round as ever, love that man.
