List of movies I've watched 3 times or more this year
1. Whisper of the Heart, my literal favorite animated movie of all time
2. This fucking banger
-
If the movies Hollywood put out had even an ounce of this film's creativity, the film industry would be in a pretty good state. Drop whatever you're doing right now and watch this.
-
Looked like it cost $20 to make, but it was 20 well-spent dollars.
-
Captain Seafield will do what it takes,
To catch the Monster that lives in the lake.
With his sea legs,
He'll find an egg,
And decide whether or not it should break.
-
A deranged mix of Guy Maddin's old-timey aesthetic obsessions and Adult Swim non-sequitur humour that overcomes its "Your friends made an internet short and now you have to watch it" downsides by venturing into full-on bonkers land. I'm usually lukewarm on motion pictures that don't work within the limitations of their chosen style, as it's kind of a cheat to shoot grainy B&W and edit it/move the camera like Edgar Wright, but MICHIGAN MONSTER is so packed with clever medium-based goofs that it slowly won me over. The use of grain, splices and skipped frames is brilliant.
At first, Writer/Director/Star Ryland Brickson Cole Tews's sea captain protagonist is a little hard to take, but surprisingly, once the story jettisons all…

what if the lighthouse was a shitpost?
An amazing shitpost tho

How big is this movie’s enjoyment level? Well, this is a lion… and this is a tiger… it’s as BIG as a lion!

142nd Review for The Collab Weekly Movie Watch
I bet Ryland is a big fan of Nostalgia Critic. Dude sometimes even sounds like him.
But yeah, this wacky wacko is hard to put into words, as this is a go-home or go-broken visual extravaganza. Over the top. Billion jokes per hour. The whole film is basically this one big joke. Sometimes they land; sometimes they are just too weird. It is incredibly experimental in its direction, which helps set it apart from the rest through a lot of the frantic editing, scratch, and spotlight effects that call back to the dawn of proper cinema, plus some stuff you will expect from some action anime. Yet, while some of it does…

I honestly don’t have much to say. It’s a little weird and bizarre, and not every joke worked for me. But I love the creativity and passion put into it, even with a low budget. The third act is completely bonkers, and my favorite part of the film!

I literally could quote any line from this masterpiece and it would be the funniest thing you ever heard. Still one of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen. I will never get tired of the way Seafeild says “Shaun Shaughnessy.”

Wow! What an absolute bonkers low budget indie treat. The editing, cinematography and effects were magnificent. Very well written as well, all the zany one liners had me laughing nonstop throughout. I immediately bought a physical copy of the film to add to my collection. I can’t wait to see what this director does next!
