I always loved when right in the middle of a kick-ass concert, Prince would proudly proclaim, “Real music played by real musicians!”
And that’s exactly how I feel when I’m watching a movie like this, “Real filmmaking made by real filmmakers!”
Just a dazzling display of old-school filmmaking with real animals, real creativity and not a single ounce of lazy CGI.

Succulent, out-of-this-world color. A blend of palettes heightening the adventure and the drama, the tirades of greed and "the red flower" rising across the land. Always a dilemma when live animals are utilized with such poise and effectiveness only to realize the conditions they were probably handled under were sub-par at best, but the images shimmer with the elusiveness of its Jungle setting to the point where you can't help but gape at the vision in its entirety. Sabu!
Some of the most stunning color cinematography I've ever seen in a movie - Korda and his cinematographers make the jungle into a rainbow, full of deep and cool liquid blues, ruby reds, and of course, lush greens. It's also cool how hard-hitting the parable elements of the story are, portraying "civilized" humans as dumb and greedy murderers - I love the scene towards the end with all the shots of the jungle creatures watching in judgment over the treasure hunters' crimes.
I should also mention Sabu, who brings a ton of energy and an almost subliminal undercurrent of sex into his portrayal of Mowgli. There's a reason that guy gets an exclamation point attached to his name.
Sabu is peak level talented I am in awe at his ability to bring to the simplest scenes so much energy.
The first on-screen version of Rudyard Kipling's Jungle Book (1894) is the most direct interpretation of the work. Disney's animated version came later, which is the most well-known version of the work. This film is extremely dated, and the contrast between the shadowy and outdoor lighted scenes is so great that some of the scenes are just hard to see. The story, however, is much more watchable than Disney's version. There's more action and drama, and seemingly more of a plot. The closing sequences with the jungle fire is also impressive even for its age. By today's standard this one is certainly a mediocre watch, yet this one very well could've been a favorite in its day. It's still not a bad watch, I did find some enjoyment in it after all.

My three year old kid found this version of The Jungle Book way more interesting than the Disney one from 1967 (a movie I've tried to make him watch three times now, without succeeding). That ought to say something about how impressive this movie really is. Or it says something about how weird my kid is... Either way I was pretty impressed by this movie myself. Especially when it came to the big beautiful sets and amazing colors, like right out from the most spectacular picture book.
This adaption of The Jungle Book focuses mostly on the chapter Tiger, Tiger!, where Mowgli is back in the human village and having a hard time adapting. And thrown into the mix are…
As far as live action adaptations of Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book can go, this is without a doubt the most gorgeous one. The Technicolor photography, Miklós Rozsa's score, the beautiful sets, and Sabu's interpretation of Mowgli are all incredibly top notch - I've never seen anything quite like it.
Yet Sabu being the only person of colour in the cast is something that rubs off in the wrong way - which is also an issue with how well the film has stood the test of time. Getting the animals to talk onscreen doesn't seem nearly as convincing now, but there's still a certain charm to what they've at least tried to do here.
Almost a great movie, but besides how gorgeous it all looks, doesn't stand out beyond being a product of its own time. Still solid enough adventure fare though.
Visually dreamy with adventurous bright colors. Truly mesmerizing adaptation of the Jungle Book (1942)! Unfortunately the characters drown a little too much within the ambitious settings of gold and wildlife, which makes this more a visual experience than the emotional trip it also should have been. But it's so unique for it's time that I loved it for the richness it does possess!

Perhaps it's the silliness of it all that heightens the sense of adventure. Vibrant colours paint this screen adaptation of Kipling's book, making it look so gorgeous and special. Sabu plays a fantastic role as the most famous son of the jungle. The animals look simply amazing, and it feels so great to be able to watch them on screen.
This Jungle Book takes on a unique perspective, as it focuses more on Mowgli’s (played here wonderfully by Sabu) life amongst the humans rather than his adventures with his “talking” animal friends. Sure, his animal friends are here, even Baloo’s dead cousin, but don’t expect them to go dancing through the jungle... especially Baloo’s dead cousin! Anyways, the focus on Mowgli’s identity as a man cub, and his struggle to find his place between the wilds of the jungle and civilization really sells this story. Another selling point is the film’s use of bold Technicolor, which makes Disney’s animated classic look black and white in comparison. Not really, but you get the picture. The only drawback is its end, which leaves you with a “and that’s another story.” God, I hate that.
My only experience with The Jungle Book is the Disney version, so I had no idea about the other parts.
Those other parts are actually ok, but the over use of stock footage makes this production seem cheaper than it probably was.
The fire scene was cool but seeing actual animals surrounded by fire is not my jam.
