Charlie Lang is a simple, kindhearted New York City cop. When he realizes he has no money to tip waitress Yvonne Biasi, Lang offers her half the winnings of his lottery ticket. Amazingly, the ticket happens to be a winner, in the sum of $4 million. True to his word, Lang proceeds to share the prize money with Biasi, which infuriates his greedy wife, Muriel. Not content with the arrangement, Muriel begins scheming to take all the money.

I really have no excuses for loving this as much as I did. It's a really stupid movie and one of the corniest things I've ever seen. Rosie Perez' character is nonsensically, insanely evil, and the movie is totally uninterested in giving us any shred of detail about how she ended up married to the most generous Nic Cage in the world. Also, Isaac Hayes' role is weird, and doesn't really make any sense.
But... but... it's so cute! And Nic 'n' Bridget are so adorable together! And the supporting cast is ridiculously stacked - Stanley Tucci and Seymour Cassel are hilarious, and Wendell Pierce (Bunk!) is a delight as always. And even in lesser Nic Cage films, there always…

Cage once again gets to make use of his romantic side in this sort of Brewster Million-esque romcom about an incredibly polite, less of a cop and more like a blue prince, who walks into the life of this bankrupted waitress when he promises to share half of the money he wins in a lottery. Of course, this being a romantic film, the two slowly fall in love.
Fonda and Cage have great chemistry. Bridget was low-key such a great romantic lead around that era; I will dare to say on the same level as Meg Ryan, though one could argue she got less recognition than the latter. But she’s great on both…
Cage is SO good at the Frank Capra inspired stuff and I hope he does at least one more movie like this where he gets to do this kind of performance. When he's in these magical, fanciful roles, you never fail to identify with him. You never fail to love him. You never fail to be inspired by him. And Bridget Fonda was such a hero of the 90s, and almost exclusively in the 90s, and there's still enough great work there to also make her an all-timer for me.
A old fashioned feel good 90s romantic film that has a happy, fairytale dream feel to it. Charming, mostly positive and has Nicholas cage just playing a kind, sweet, charming person.
