It's never gonna turn into a Vanilla Milkshake.
What the fuck is happening here? Why are you following the Final Destination template? Look FD movies worked because there was uncertainty in every step that made the entire story interesting, even though you knew that most of them if not all of the survivors are gonna die in the end, it sustained the thrill with every kill through a chain reaction and over the top violence which made all of those films original in a way even though all of them followed the same theme.
But the thing about psychological horror/thriller theme is that it will work as long as the story is original and the element of mystery is sustained…
I actually forgot I was in the middle of this series, and it’s been at least a few months since I watched the last one.
Pinhead is in this for all of 5 minutes, and everything else is just so stupid and poorly done, especially the acting. I obviously wasn’t expecting much from a straight to DVD film that was shot in 2002 and didn’t get released until 2005, but even still this was just a waste of time.
Thank god these movies are under 90 minutes because at this point, I don’t even want to finish this series, but I know my stupid ass is gonna do it anyway.
And down again on the quality roller coaster of the 7th part of the series.
TW: You can get bored!
do the hellraiser films even follow an actual plot? i never know what is going on or what to expect, and they still somehow keep getting worse.
Filmed in 2003 and released in 2005, Deader (what a stupid title) tells the story of a reporter (Kari Wuhrer) who investigates an underground group that can resurrect the dead... much to Pinhead's dismay. Once again Pinhead has a very limited amount of screen time, and the majority of the film takes place in underground train stations, train cars, a bathroom, and abandoned places (no specifics because every place that isn't a train station, a train car, or a bathroom is abandoned).
I dunno... it really bothers me that a franchise that created such a rich atmospheric and huge potential for world building in the first two (even three!) films could eventually find its way to sequels like this. The…

Part 7 is definitely my least favorite of the sequels produced during the 2000’s. It’s not awful, but it’s just not that great either. I mean, it’s certainly a better story than the ridiculous part 8, but it’s not nearly as much fun as that one.
All of the stories in parts 5-8 are ideas that were rewritten to cash in on the Hellraiser franchise, but this one about a reporter investigating a cult feels like the most obvious one. Maybe that’s because nothing remotely relating to Hellraiser even shows up until about a half hour in and Pinhead only makes two appearances. One is about 2/3 of the way through for like a minute and then him along with two pretty…
You can tell from the ultra thin eyebrows that this was made in 2005, yes ma’am!
In that scene where Kari Wuhrer is trying to work her way through that super skinny stone wall corridor, she sounds exactly like me putting on booty shorts in the summer. Leave them with absolutely nothing to the imagination is my general dress code.
Is this a good Hellraiser movie? No. Is this a good horror movie? Also no. But it has DTV Sequel Queen Kari Wuhrer and a somewhat decent Pinhead scene at the end so I’m not just going to not like it.
LMAO @ the cut to the newspaper article that Amy wrote ("How to be a Crack Whore"??!?!?!?!?!) and the word "skankology" being used within the first 5 minutes of this movie.
The Deader cult subway train scenes are the coolest. The bloody bathroom scene is borderline comical. Pinhead looks like he doesn't even want to be in hell anymore. These later entries have way too many flashback scenes!!! The choppy editing is a headache.
I personally feel dead, deader, deadest, deaderer, and deaderest having watched this. All around bummer.
The Hedonism Train was a nice touch. Fun to imagine a guy trying to get home after a show or something and he's just sitting in between a topless woman with a cow skull mask getting eaten out by somebody doing heroin and a leather fetish guy who's "into goggles." Just pulling out his phone and playing sudoku while they writhe around to a Dragula soundalike.
It's a shame that these things are so obviously Jacob's Ladder/Se7en ripoff scripts that were bouncing around before somebody's manager said "y'know Hellraiser stuff is selling. Do you think maybe Pinhead would fit into this?" I personally think this franchise deserves better but we got two classics out of it which is sort of a lot so what am I whining about.
