Synopsis
Some are born great, some achieve greatness, some have greatness thrust upon them ...and then there are others.
The odd biography of Harvie Krumpet, a man who has Tourette's Syndrome, chronic bad luck, menial jobs, nudist tendencies, and a book of "fakts" hung around his neck - but still optimistically lives own way and enjoys the small things life has to offer.

This short film was a roller coaster of emotions and it made me feel happy, sad and everything in between.
Before this I had only watched Adam Elliot’s first three short films (each one is around 5 minutes long) and this longer runtime really gave us time to learn about the character’s life.
The movie covered almost every emotion, while telling us about an unlucky man’s life from birth to death, which gave a realistic impression of which emotions you experience during a lifetime.
The narration was great, as it talked about death and depression without making it a taboo and without slowing the story down. The bad stuff just happens like all the other stuff in life.
The claymation was great too and dark enough to fit the short film’s tone, while still being silly enough to fit the humor.

"Harvie didn't just seize the day- he was strangling it"

Life is fleeting, odd, and full of little sparks. Adam Elliot packs more humanity into 23 minutes than most films do in two hours.

Thinking man's crumpet? Well, it's more flattering than being a lobotomised man's crumpet, I suppose.
It is worrisome to recognize me in Harvie. Clay classic.

This short film (available to watch here) is an Australian clay animation made in Melbourne written, directed and animated by Adam Elliot (who also did the more recent Mary and Max), and narrated by Geoffrey Rush. It won an Oscar in 2003 for Best Animated Short Film.
A really great film - some bleak topics dressed up in black humour and childlike claymation. The film follows the story of Polish immigrant Harvie Krumpet, who has an extraordinary amount of bad luck. Despite this, he comes to the realisation that he should live for the moment and enjoy life rather than dwelling on his unfortunate life. It's a sad and cruel story, but uplifting and darkly funny at the same time and Geoffery Rush's great voice for the narration makes the whole thing very engaging.
Some tales are magical and this is one of them. 8/10

Wow.
This is a really special, Oscar winning short from Adam Elliot.
I'm not going to explain the plot, because I think it's a much more rewarding experience if you sit down and watch this without any prior knowledge.
If you haven't seen or heard about this short before, then just looking at the poster, you might think that this is a claymation film aimed at children, but that's certainly not the case. Filled with humor that's blacker than a smokers lungs (weird analogy, but let's roll with it, after all, it does have relevance), a complexity that does require a few rewatches to deduce and a deep and emotional story makes this short, mixed with the animation, one of…

Adam Elliot is a strange man. A very strange man indeed. He works with the blackest of humour, finding things to laugh at in the most macabre situations and characters. In a sense, half the reason you laugh so hard at Harvie Krumpet is because it's so sad, and it's all you can do to indulge in the ridiculous comedy of it. A fitting precursor to the tragicomic genius that would come with Mary and Max, this is a touching and hilarious little story, a great bit of fun that really means something.

FAKT 1034
Life is like a cigarette. Smoke it to the fullest.
Adam Elliot is my favorite director in terms of his iconic style in animation and brilliant storytelling that humanizes an ostracized group of people. best animation director ever, I don't care.
such a wholesome and loving short, wish this was full length cause I loved every second. it has a powerful message to live life to the fullest & to embrace life's high and lows.
relate to Harvie Krumpet in so many metaphorical ways.
